Five of my favourite colourful finds this month - April 2014.

Wrapping up May with five of my favourite colourful finds. I hope you enjoy them too.

1. An incredible amount of work went into the creation of this amazing colour book. I couldn’t believe it was created in 1692 by an artist known only as “A. Boogert”, writing a book in Dutch about mixing watercolours. Not only would he begin the book about the use of colour in painting, but he would go on to explain how to create certain hues and change the tone by adding one, two, or three parts of water. The premise sounds simple enough, but the final product is almost unfathomable in its detail and scope. Read more…

2. One for the boys… UK Men’s Health magazine wrote an interesting article on how men in British politics can balance authoritative smartness with discretion and gravitas. I was asked how important is colour in communicating the right message. My published comments focused on George Osborne, UK’s current Chancellor and the confused message he is sending out wearing black. Read more…

3. London in May is bursting with architectural and interior design events, Grand Designs, May Design Series and Clerkenwell Design week being the most popular with the general public, design professions and students. I was thrilled to be asked to speak at Grand Designs colour panel and on their interiors stage and then for the industry Clerkenwell Design Week for Designworks Tiles on the architects fascination with white “What’s wrong with white?” and ‘Living in Full Colour’. 4. Granted it’s not for everyone but it may be just the initiative needed to bring some colour into everyday life. It looks like they rolled on stripes of colour first and then let other colours drip down from the top. I hope it has a positive effect, brightening the lives of the people living there.

5. I was thrilled to launch the first of my colour master classes this month at the very popular London based decor cafe. If you would like to attend or host one of my courses please contact me for more details.
