In September, London is the definitely the place to be for exhibitions, events, trade shows, talk and lectures on all things interiors. One design event, Decorex International, is making clever use of the run up with their new initiative ‘Decorex loves bloggers’ to find the best online writers.

Having entered this competition myself I was intrigued to find out more from behind the scenes.

Enjoy an interview with… Tony Crinion, Decorex brand director.

1. For those readers that don’t already know, what is Decorex and what are the values behind it?
Decorex International is more than an interior design trade-show. It’s a very exclusive gathering of people who all follow our mission behind the show – Decorex LOVES DESIGN! Since its 1978 launch, we have successfully grown the show over the years to confirm its position at the heart of the design community. The event brings a unique selection of innovative and inspirational designs from handpicked exhibitors, to the top industry’s professionals joining us every September at the Royal Hospital Chelsea: interior designers, retail buyers and hotel and contract specifiers alike.

2. Why are bloggers so important to Decorex?
Design bloggers are the voice of the online interior design community. They are up to date with the latest industry news and trends and they look further, commenting on what’s yet to come with an unparalleled enthusiasm. It’s the continuous exchange of ideas in the online space, which inspires us to put together an exceptional show. Being up to date with the voice of our online community inspires us to present forward-thinking twists on everyday design, which in turn give inspiration to designers.

Daily communication with bloggers and their honest feedback makes Decorex International a unique event, actively shaped by the voices of all its enthusiastic followers and visitors.

3. What made you decide to run this competition?
Having recognised how huge the design blogging scene is in the UK, we wanted to be the first interior design trade-show to distinguish the best of blogging talent. We want the best online writers to be celebrated, heard of and appreciated for their sharp-pen, eye for interesting news, bright comments and a 24/7 passion for design. So far, we have received plenty positive comments about our ‘Decorex loves bloggers’ campaign, all of which highlight what a fantastic opportunity we have created for design bloggers to shine.

4. What will the winner of your competition win and what will they be asked to do?
The winner will join the Decorex team this September for duration of the 2011 show, getting backstage access to show preparations and blogging for us on everything from the show set up and the most interesting exhibitors to the feature areas and seminar talks from the industry’s leading figures. Additionally the winner will be invited to join a Private View with Nicky Haslam.

5. What are you most looking forward to at this year’s Decorex?  Is there a secret you can share?
I’m really looking forward most to seeing this year’s theme Cherished Places come to life. The event itself will be turned into a cherished place; a sanctuary filled with high end products created by pioneering design talent. I am excited to see designs created exclusively for the show, which are Nicky Haslam’s show entrance, Martin Hulbert’s champagne bar and bar & the restaurant designed by Broosk Saib.

And the secret? When visiting the show, you will stumble upon a surrealist grotto…

6. Where is Decorex held?
Decorex takes place from 25-28 September 2011 at Royal Hospital Chelsea, London. You can get directions on how to get there here: http://www.decorex.com/page.cfm/Link=166/t=m/goSection=3

7. How can people find out more?
You can find all information about Decorex International 2011 at www.decorex.com. And if you have specific questions about the Decorex loves bloggers campaign, please email Decorex International’s digital community executive Justyna Sowa at [email protected].

I’m really looking forward to this year’s Decorex event, especially the intriguing surrealist grotto…

Over the past 6-9 months it’s been interesting to see the increase in the number of blog competitions being held within the design industry.
